What does a Junior Road Safety Officer do?

Becoming a JRSO is a responsible job and during your one year term of office during Year 6 you will be asked to:

1. Create and maintain a road safety notice board with interesting information each term

2. Arrange and carry out road safety activities/competitions/surveys for people in your school

3. Read out road safety messages in assembly

4. Use the JRSO activity pack to raise road safety awareness to everyone within the school

5. Become a good JRSO representative for the school by setting an example of good road safety practice

and, if you want to

6. Set up and run a Road Safety Club in school

7. Get involved in local road safety issues

For parents/teachers:

The scheme which has been in operation nationally for over 20 years, has proved to be a successful way of engaging with children to raise awareness of road safety issues.

During Year 5, interested pupils complete a simple application form giving the reasons why they think they would be suitable for the position of JRSO in the school. Candidates are then interviewed by the outgoing JRSOs.

Successful candidates take up office from September during their Year Six - term of office is for one year.
