Year 5 Spring Term

Picture

What's happening in the Spring Term?

Ancient Greece is the topic for this term and we start off the term where our literacy topic links to myths and legend as well as learning about Midsummer Night's Dream. From there, the children use Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief as a basis for writing.

Children learn about modern Greece and compare it to the UK, then we move onto the different themes in the Ancient Greece topic, such as the Battle of Marathon and Athens and Sparta.  They find out about the Greek gods and take a look at themes such as democracy.  We will finish the term with a Greek day and our very own version of the Greek Olympics.  Both will involve a look into Ancient Greek Daily life and in school and the children will cook traditional Greek recipes.

In art, children will find develop their drawing skills and draw portraits which will then lead to designing and making Greek masks out of clay.
