Turnfurlong Junior School

"The study of Geography is more than just memorising places on a map. It's about understanding the complexity of our world." Former President Barack Obama

Geography

Intent

Geography teaching at Turnfurlong Junior School aims to encompass the passion and excitement that comes from investigating our world.  Children will engage in learning that develops understanding of the interdependence and interconnectedness of communities and the natural  world.  With a focus on building a secure understanding of diverse places, human and physical processes, developing fieldwork skills and learning key vocabulary, children will have a sound grounding to make sense of the world while building the fluency of skills linked to the study of geography.

Learning is sequenced to cover understanding of the world that they know, in studying their local area and expanding that to other places or communities which hold significant links or learning opportunities for our range of students.  Children are encouraged to question and evaluate based on a deep knowledge of their world around them maintained by frequent opportunities to recap and expand on prior learning. Ultimately, we aim to provide a platform to inspire the children's curiosity of the study of the world
